“I can feel what I want. These are fragile energy waves, sensitive streams which one can’t see, which can only be felt……”

It is fascinating what Maja Pogacnik had written in her diary in November 2002 in Spain before she started to paint. Energy and vibrations, everything which lives, in and around us, which keeps us moving and always change is one of the life focuses of the sensitive painter. Since her geomantic studies she can’t get free of the desire to portray everything she can feel and sense. Maja Pogacnik calls her works which resulted from her deep impressions of Spain and Portugal study trip“Iberian traces”. During this trip she left herself to the earth and tried to become one thing with it.

In her paintings Maja gives a face to energy streams of the landscape, catches vibrations of the earth, light, clouds and rocks and holds them tight.

“I receive invisible energies and try to make them visible,” this is how Maja describes her work. The visible making of energy is like a soft, thick dialogue between the earth and a human being. Paintings like coming from a dream world, in earth colours with strong, original, almost archaic elements, which wake up memories of the observer.

Memories of forgotten, hidden, covered things which we must learn to feel again. Maja senses out the original nature of the earth, of elements. She feels energy traces of a landscape, receives them, carries them outside and let us see them. A creative process in connection with the landscape, an exchange that as she says is an enrichment for the earth as well. Maja’s present to the earth.

The colours she paint with she also takes from earth. She work with earth pigments, collects pigments in different colours and binds earth like old masters with easy substances such as yolk. Majy Pogacnik doesn’t use synthetic colours, even the blue and the green of her paintings springs from nature pigments – from soil of volcanos and metals.
